Origin Of Life:What is life?" The size of a cell's genome can be compared to the amount of programming stored in a computer, using the equation 1 nucleotide = 2 bits = .25 bytes. The simplest prokaryotic cell would correspond to a handheld calculator with about 200 K of stored programs; the E. coli bacterium would correspond to a handheld calculator with about 1.2 megabytes of stored programs. Among eukaryotic cells, counting the backup copy of the genome and the "silent" DNA, a yeast cell would correspond to a personal computer with 12 megabytes of program storage capacity; a human cell corresponds to a personal computer with 1.5 gigabytes of program storage capacity. And the human body would correspond to a computer network of a hundred trillion (10 ^ 14) or more such units. "

Dear visitors SALAAM If you have question about this boring site, please feel free to ask. The next three issues of our on-line NEWS LETTER, GNOSIS will focus on How Cancer Begins? :Are we looking under the wrong lamp post? The most hot area in cancer prevention is Caloric Restriction(fancy word for fasting) Cancer :Interview with Paul Nurse Britain's most distinguished cancer scientist. This is a summary of the interview which is published in Scientific American(SA) :" SA: Do you think we will see a cure for cancer like our grandparents saw a cure for infectious diseases?
PN: I don’t, actually. Cancer, first of all, is many different diseases, many different sites and forms; some people say it is as many as 200 different diseases. There are many different genes that can become defective to give rise to cancer, and they all have different characteristics. So I think the likelihood of having a common treatment for all of these is just not likely. There will be some treatments that will be useful across the board, but I think it would be a mistake to look for "the cure" to cancer. But what I think we can expect to see is steady improvement by applying this new knowledge to treating and preventing the disease. "For details see: Paul Nurse-Interview:Cancer How Cancer Begins?
